Outlander

After a long filming hiatus due to the pandemic and nearly a two-year wait, Outlander season 6 finally premiered in March 2022. Though instead of the promised 12 episodes, the series decided to cut it down to eight. This may have put some fans off. But the Outlander fandom is a great one, and we all took it in stride! After all, the show went this route to bring the series back to viewers faster. There was no doubt that the excitement was still there and fans were really patient, knowing the writers, crew, actors, and countless others who work so hard to bring the show to life were doing the best they could. It was rewarding to be a part of a fandom that showed that appreciation and continued to support Outlander with a positive attitude.

What emotion defined this fandom this year?

The emotion that defines Outlander fans, not just this year but every year, is patience! The fans are so dedicated to the show that even when it takes so long to produce (because we know just how hard the crew and cast are working!), we tough it out during what we call Droughtlander. This year because of production delays due to the pandemic, it had been almost two years between season 5 and 6 until the beloved show was back on our screens. And it was so worth the wait!

How this fandom made the world a better place

Outlander fans are always great about supporting the actors, whether that's with their other projects or coming up with their own projects to celebrate them. One example is Project CaiTREEna, an initiative started by a group of fans who wanted to celebrate lead actress Caitríona Balfe on her birthday in October. To help fund reforestation in areas around the world, the fans rallied and met their goal of planting 25,000 trees!
