How this fandom made the world a better place
No matter which Formula One (F1) team you support, we all smile when Sergio Perez aka Checo zooms past other racers or when he scores podium. The Mexican driver for Red Bull Racing unites the internet and F1 fandoms as we all cheer him on. Rooting for Checo throughout the 2022 Grand Prix reminded us all why we love the sport and how it’s possible to agree on something. Not to mention, the Checo memes are very wholesome.
Why we needed this fandom this year
Like with any sport, fans of opposite teams can be nasty to each other. This is especially true in F1 as fans are divided between Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing) and Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes). That said, we all needed something positive to agree on and support no matter whose side you are on, and that’s Sergio Perez. Checo made the 2022 Grand Prix fun and gave us all something to look forward to each Sunday morning.
