A’ja Wilson

In 2024, A’ja Wilson put together one of the greatest basketball years ever. She was unanimously voted the WNBA’s MVP, the third MVP award of her career, and finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting. During this MVP season, Wilson became the first WNBA player to score 1,000 points in a single season. She also recorded the most rebounds ever for a single season, grabbing 451 boards. Additionally, she led the league in blocks and helped carry the Las Vegas Aces to the WNBA semifinals. In the middle of this all-time-great WNBA season, Wilson took a break to lead Team USA’s Women’s basketball team to a historic eighth consecutive gold medal at the 2024 Olympics, leaving Paris with the award for MVP of the tournament.

Best fan moment of the year

While Wilson winning a unanimous MVP was great to witness, especially after the infamous fourth-place vote she received in 2023, the best moment of the year was Wilson making history with 1,000 points in a single season. Accomplishing something that has never been done before, Wilson continued to elevate her game, and the women’s game, to a new level.

What we’ll remember about this fandom a decade from now

A’ja Wilson has already comfortably put herself into the GOAT conversation and she’s only 28 years old. In a decade, it may not be a conversation at all, as she has the chance to ascend to even higher heights.
