Despite the first major rain delay at the Indy 500 since 2007, 350,000+ fans stuck it out and packed Indianapolis Motor Speedway, once again turning the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing“ into the largest single-day sporting event on the planet. Formula 1's recent rise in popularity in the United States has dominated headlines and NASCAR continues to be America’s favorite racing series, but it’s obvious that IndyCar is becoming harder and harder for motorsport fans to ignore.

Best fan moment of the year
The Indy 500 is indeed the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” and remains IndyCar’s biggest and best tradition. Twice in the first 106 Indy 500s had a race been decided with a last-lap pass for the win. In 2023, Josef Newgarden became the third driver to pull it off before climbing through the fence and joining the fans. Then in 2024, it was déjà vu, as he once again took the lead on lap 200, took the checkered flag, and climbed through the fence and into the crowd. Can he make it three in a row in 2025?
Why you should join this fandom
The competition in IndyCar is as fierce as it comes. Seven drivers from four different teams not only won but won multiple races in 2024, and the season-long championship was not decided until the last race, something that has been true in all but one season since 2005.
