Kansas City Current

SEE ALL Soccer
After their historic home-opener, the Current went on an unbeaten streak that lasted until July and finished the year with the most goals in NWSL history — 57 total goals! Temwa Chawinga won the Golden Boot after scoring 20 goals and the Current became the first NWSL team to sell out all of their regular-season home games. Women's sports are growing and the Kansas City Current are a shining example.

Why we needed this fandom this year

We needed the Kansas City Current this year to remind people what the standard should be for women's sports. The other 13 teams in the NWSL play in a stadium that's shared with another team or teams and the Current were the first to show that that doesn't have to be the case. Setting the bar so high is what we'll remember about the Current 10 years from now and it won't be hard for fans to look back and remember that historic day when everyone was celebrating not just the Current but the evolution of women's sports.

Best fan moment of the year

March 2024 marked the opening of CPKC Stadium, which was not just the home to the Kansas City Current but it was also the first stadium ever built for a professional women's soccer team. The Current won that game over Portland with Vanessa DiBernardo scoring the first goal and giving fans a day they'd never forget.
