Superman and Lois has only been on the air for four years and in that time it has quickly made a case for itself as the best Superman story ever told. It’s not just because it’s a great superhero TV show, it’s that it’s an all-around excellent piece of television, highlighting that the heart of Superman and Lois Lane’s story isn’t super powers; it’s the love that they have for each other, and their family. The level of storytelling in the CW series is second-to-none and its fourth season is just the most recent example of that, offering up some of the show’s strongest material yet. And even though it is bowing out all too soon, there is no doubt that Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch have etched their place in history among the greatest performers to ever play these iconic roles.

Why we needed this fandom this year
With Warner Bros. resetting the DC Universe and new ownership at The CW both contributing to the premature ending of all DCTV shows, Superman and Lois very quickly became the last of its kind. After a decade of dominance on the small screen, there was just one superhero series left on broadcast television and it’s extremely fitting that it was the last remnant of The CW’s Arrowverse — the franchise that started this movement in the first place. Though Superman and Lois didn’t always get the love or appreciation that it deserved, its devoted fans always took the opportunity to highlight their beloved show, the strength of its writing and the incredible performers on it. Their commitment to it has always been clear, but it was on display even more so in the run-up to its final season, as they continued to spotlight this amazing, underrated show before it flew off into the sunset.
What emotion defined this fandom this year?
Passion is a word commonly associated with superhero fans, but the passion that Superman and Lois’ fans showed in the final few months of the show’s run was out-of-this-world. With a new Superman movie on the way, the Superman and Lois fans weren’t about to let their favorite show go out without a bang. From constantly posting in support of the show’s actors to highlighting the final season’s many incredible moments, the fandom ensured that more people would discover the beauty of Superman and Lois so that its legacy would live on long after the credits rolled on the finale. And as a longtime fan of the show myself, I couldn’t have asked for a more passionate fanbase to be part of. The “Fam of Steel” are quite literally Super.
