OKC’s impossibly deep roster has made it difficult for Aaron Wiggins to properly break out, but it’s getting harder to ignore his myriad contributions on a bonafide contender. Wiggins is OKC’s best microwave scorer off the bench, but he’s also so much more than that. He’d probably start and put up numbers on the majority of NBA teams. It’s time for folks to take notice.

A slippery 6-foot-6 slasher, Wiggins has no trouble getting downhill and finishing with craft around the basket. He’s highly attuned to what’s happening around him, taking advantage of sleepy defenders with timely cuts or relocations. In addition to a sharp uptick in 3s, Wiggins has developed into a potent three-level threat. He can stop on a dime and rip pull-ups in the mid-range. There is even some passing flare to write home about; Wiggins spends ample time leading OKC’s second unit, which means pick-and-roll reps and a lot of two-man actions with a big on the elbow.

The defense remains a work in progress, but Wiggins has the tools to keep getting better on that end. He’s also in an optimal position with OKC. His workload is limited for the time being, but Wiggins has ascended to a position of real consequence on a team with Finals aspirations.
