When Brandon Miller was drafted No. 2 overall, the Hornets franchise received waves of scorn. To be fair, that franchise deserves scorn most of the time, but Miller immediately proved to be the right pick for Charlotte.

All the shades of elite NBA scorers that Miller possessed while at Alabama translated instantly to NBA courts. In year one, Miller showed confidence finding — and making — his own shot, the most important skill for modern NBA wings. Miller being 6-foot-9 makes the aesthetics of his game even prettier, but more importantly, it makes the mechanics really, really hard to stop for defenses.

With incredible body control, a quick release and an improving handle, Miller is probably closer than it seems to becoming the All-Star bucket-getter that Charlotte’s front office dreamed he would turn into when they drafted him, even if that meant sending Hugo the Hornet into an existential spiral.
