Cade Cunningham just needed real NBA players around him to become an All-Star – It was that simple all along. After a few years of having to pull a franchise out of the mud, Detroit’s star guard has some legit help and is showing the world why building a competent roster around your young star is so essential.

He might not come to mind when you think of point guards who thrive in isolation, but Cade is consistently in the James Harden, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander tier of how often his shots are assisted; that’s to say, not very often. Whether he’s facing up defenders and using smooth handles to angle his way to the basket or backing down smaller defenders for a quasi-post up, Cade can get his in a variety of ways.

Don’t call him one-dimensional, though; even without a true co-star, Cade is among the top assist men in the league, and doesn’t get tunnel vision to the basket, even when he’s hot. Exhibit A – a 29-point, 15-assists triple-double at Madison Square Garden earlier this year.
