A lot has been said about Paolo Banchero in the three-ish years he’s played in the NBA. Some of that talk is overly laudatory, some of it confoundingly critical. Being the top pick in the NBA Draft will lead people to say crazy things.

Here’s a fact; Banchero was the leading scorer on a playoff team in his second season in the NBA. Our expectations for top picks are sky high off the bat, but it’s hard to argue against that being an overwhelming success — especially considering the team he did it for had made two playoff appearances in the prior 11 years.
Banchero’s game needs some refinement; his 3-point shot can’t be trusted yet and he gets overly happy in the midrange, a place where he’s good but not great – yet. You can view that as a negative, or you can take the more optimistic route: at 22 years old, Banchero has some very fixable areas of his game and he’s already this good. I’m taking that route.
