The presumptive Rookie of the Year came out on top of a bad class, but Castle also showed he’s probably the player best suited to be given heavy reins. Zaccharie Risacher and Alex Sarr had good seasons but in role player capacities.

Castle instead took more and more of a role on as the season went on. He is the case of a player who jumps off the screen more than the stats page. His overall production is good, but the efficiency isn’t; that’s fine — you don’t expect efficiency on volume this early in his career. But he makes winning plays, is gritty and tough on loose balls and on-ball defense.
Castle’s explosiveness opens doors for the Spurs, and next year they’ll want to really work to develop how best to establish dynamics between Castle and Wembanyama. He proved he’s worth being part of the formula they’re concocting around Wemby. Now they have to figure out what the right combinations are to build a contender with Castle as a component.
