3 ranked college basketball teams on upset alert this week, Jan. 8-14
No. 15 Wisconsin (At Ohio State 1/10)
The Big Ten has been something of a mystery box in the early season as there has been a scramble to determine who the best teams are outside of Purdue and Illinois. The title of third-best Big Ten school currently resides with Wisconsin, which is ranked at No. 15 and can point to victories over both Virginia and Marquette as evidence that they belong among the conference's best.
It is a typical Badgers' team, however, that is methodical on offense and likes to limit possessions. KenPom rates Wisconsin 317th in the nation in terms of adjusted tempo, which is good for a strong defensive team but leaves them vulnerable to getting upset if their shots aren't falling.
Wednesday sees Wisconsin hit the road to take on Ohio State, which is off to a solid 2-2 start in league play. The Buckeyes have a non-conference win over Alabama as their signature victory and have a similar play style to the Badgers since they rank 273rd in adjusted tempo according to KemPom.
This combination should lead to a defensive slugfest that has a 55-53 final written all over it. Those kinds of games are good indicators of potential upsets so don't be shocked if Wisconsin leaves Columbus with its first Big Ten loss.
