NBA Rumors: Warriors roasted for another poor late-game decision
Things seem to be falling apart for the Golden State Warriors who are losers of seven of their last ten games. Their recent struggles have the Warriors sitting at 18-21 on the year, tied for 11th in the Western Conference and out of a Play-In spot entirely. If the season ended today, the Warriors would be home on their couches watching the Play-In Tournament. That's something nobody expected to see 39 games into the season.
A big reason things have gone so poorly for Golden State is because one of their star players, Draymond Green, has missed substantial time after an indefinite suspension. Fortunately for Golden State Green is expected to return to the Warriors' lineup for Monday's game in Memphis. They certainly need him to help get them going.
One of the players who was supposed to step up in Green's absence, Jonathan Kuminga, has done a nice job when given the chance to play, but has seen inconsistent playing time even with Draymond out. This has happened even in games Kuminga has played well in, which just doesn't make much sense considering the 21-year-old forward is enjoying a breakout season.
Kuminga was in the midst of one of the best games of his NBA career in Saturday's loss in Milwaukee, scoring 28 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field and 6-of-6 from the free throw line, but he did not see action during crunch time, instead sitting on the bench while the struggling Andrew Wiggins was on the floor. Wiggins had just seven points in 32 minutes.
The Warriors were competitive for much of their road game in Milwaukee without Stephen Curry, and were down by seven points with 4:37 remaining in the game. Steve Kerr inexplicably removed Kuminga from the game at that point, and the lead increased to 10 in the three minutes since before putting Kuminga back on the court. Of course, by then, it was too little too late.
Kuminga didn't start the game which was pretty inexcusable in itself without Draymond, and he did not finish it either, despite dropping 28 points in 30 minutes. The Warriors continue to show no trust in him while also keeping him off the trade block. Make it make sense, Golden State.
