The 2023 WNBA MVP is another player that we are just lucky to get to witness. Breanna Stewart started her career with a mind-blowing four-straight NCAA championships with the University of Connecticut. She was drafted first overall into the WNBA and then won two WNBA championships with the Seattle Storm. She is a 2x MVP, Olympic Gold Medalist, World Champion, and has several other championships and awards from her time playing overseas. Her extensive resume alone is a good reason she is so high on our rankings, but watching her hoop is another experience entirely. Stewie does it ALL — she can score and defend in the post, shoot from distance, facilitate, has a great fadeaway midshot, she can drive. She is such a well-rounded player and it shows in the way she can just take over a game. Stewie never panics, she never lets pressure overcome her, and she is a proven winner.

What we’ll remember about this 2024 season a decade from now

When we eventually look back at this era of basketball, with players like Wilson and Stewart at the top of their game, their accomplishments will be incredibly impressive. They are impressive now, but they make it look easy. Yet, some players never win MVP, and they have multiple times. Some people never win a championship or a medal – they have many. It’s just normal for them to win. For Stewie in particular, it’s the way she makes every move on the court look easy. It’s the way she knows exactly when to pass, how to motivate her teammates, and when it’s her shot to take. She has become an incredible advocate and knows how to use her voice to bring change to not just her team or sport, but to women’s sports as a whole. She’s already made basketball better on and off the court than the way she found it.

By the numbers

Stewart is already in the top-25 on the WNBA's All-Time scoring list with plenty of years left in her peak. At her current pace, she could move inside the top-15 next season and moved into the No. 2 spot before she turns 34.
