Jackie Young is rapidly becoming one of the best players in the entire WNBA, landing at No. 10 in the rankings. The Las Vegas Aces guard is easily one of the best two-way players in the league and never has an off night because she always brings it on the defensive end. Her steal and block numbers will not jump off the page at you so you have to watch her to fully grasp her impact on both sides of the ball. Oh, and she’s very skilled with the ball in her hands too. She averaged 15.8 points per contest and added 5.3 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game in 2024, both of which were career highs.

Taking the next step

Moving up the list would be quite easy for Young because all she has to do is more of the same. Her offensive aggression level wavered at times, and she did not always shoot the ball with the confidence that a player of her caliber should. She can get hot in a hurry and completely flip the momentum of the game but does not always do so when her team needs her to. She is a three-level scorer and her versatility is tough to defend, she just doesn’t always recognize it. Another way for her to add more impact and improve her numbers would be to limit her fouls. She is such a great defender that oftentimes she gets greedy going for steals and ends up sitting on the side watching due to foul trouble. She fouled out of four games in 2024 and had four fouls in six different games, which means that she is fouling out or very close in 25 percent of contests. The Aces need her in the game because she is their best on-ball defender and is always tasked with defending the opposing team's best player.

Why you should be paying attention in 2025

One thing to watch for in 2025 is for Jackie Young to have a bounce-back year. It sounds crazy to acknowledge that the 10th-best player on this list was not at the peak of her ability in 2024, but she did have her lowest field goal percentage since her rookie season. For that reason, her scoring was down two points from the year prior and her lowest since 2021. She did grow tremendously as a passer, averaging a career-high in assists, which is critical for a team that is continuously adapting to how dominant A’ja Wilson can be. This ability to find open players will be invaluable for the Aces as Chelsea Gray continues to age.
