Why they're totally unique
Jones has led the league in rebounding three times and her size, length, and timing make her a force on the boards. It's common for her to turn defensive rebounds into fast-break opportunities for the New York Liberty.
When it comes to her fundamentals, she uses her body to keep opponents off the glass, ensuring that she or her teammates secure the rebound. Her technique allows her to dominate the board even against other taller or more athletic players. Her mobility is also stand-out for a player her size. She can chase down long rebounds or get into position quickly. She doesn't rely on only her height, but she works to get the ball no matter how far it is from the basket. Her hustle on the glass makes her a force on both ends.
Why you should be paying attention in 2025
Jones’ all-around skill set was on display and fully recognized when she won the MVP award in 2021. That season, she averaged 19.4 points, 11.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game. In addition she stands as the only player in WNBA history to win the Most Improved Player award (2017), Sixth-Woman of the Year (2018), and the MVP.
Since joining the Liberty she has sacrificed for her team, working to complement Sabrina Ionescu and Breanna Stewart. Even though her days of winning MVPs may be over she’s still one of the most important players in the league and could help the Liberty build a dynasty with multipl championships over the next few years.
