Kelsey Mitchell tragically lost her father back in March, the kind of thing that can send ripples through all areas of a person’s life. But Mitchell put together the best season of her entire career in 2024. Playing alongside rookie sensation Caitlyn Clark clearly worked well for both of them, and Mitchell finished the season averaging a career-best 19.2 points per game.

By the numbers

Mitchell was second in the WNBA in scoring after the Olympic break, averaging 28.3 points per game, trailing only A’ja Wilson. She was lights-out, shooting 47 percent from the field, and 40 percent from 3-point range. In addition to her scoring, she also took care of the ball a lot better, finishing the season averaging only 1.6 turnovers per game, which is the lowest in her career. Those numbers helped power the Fever offense and drive them toward their first playoff appearance since 2016.

Why you should be paying attention in 2025

Coming off the best season in her career, Mitchell still has plenty of room to get better. She is a free agent, with her three-year, $618,000 contract expiring, but she developed serious chemistry with Caitlin Clark and if she re-signs in Indiana she has a chance to help one of the best young teams in the WNBA continue building towards championship contention.
