A light-heavyweight slugfest between mixed martial arts legend Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Glover Teixeira was the co-main event of Saturday night’s UFC on FOX 6 fight card and it did not disappoint.
Teixeira lived up to all of the hype he has received as a pupil of UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell.
In the first-round, Teixeira wobbled Rampage on multiple occasions with some huge power punches. Rampage went in to survival mode and was able to escape the first-round despite being discouraged from how the fight began.
Teixeira came out again in the second-round and immediately took Rampage to the canvas where he controlled him, landed a few vicious elbows and attacked the arms of Rampage. Rampage got back to his feet and once again began trading powerful blows with the Brazilian. The two continued to exchange blows and verbal jabs for the remainder of the crowd pleasing round.
Rampage entered the third with a little extra pep in his step as he was looking to do some damage to Teixeira. After a few wild exchanges, Teixeira capitalized on a takedown opportunity and put Rampage flat on his back.
Teixeira was again focusing on locking up an arm triangle, but Rampage was able to get back to his feet and the two men continued their wild slugfest on the feet. Rampage eventually had nothing left in his tank and was visibly gassed as he stumbled through the cage tasting the leather from Teixeira’s gloves.
The Brazilian ended the fight with one final effortless takedown as he mounted Rampage and hammered away until the final bell and earned the unanimous decision victory — 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 on the judges scorecards. It was Teixeira’s 18th straight victory and he has emerged as a legitimate contender for the 205-pound title.
