After a picture perfect winner from TUF: Brazil 1 champion Ronny Jason in the fight’s opening card, the UFC gave fans an exciting match up that featured a TUF Brazil 1 veteran in Daniel Sarafian, who had his hopes of winning the show come crashing down because of injury. Sarafian faced off against American Eddie Mendez, who was riding a two-fight win streak. Mendez had to fight off the UFC jitters and hostile crowd, but he appeared to be a game opponent when he stepped in to the octagon for his promotional debut.
Sarafian was the aggressor early on in the bout, while the heavy-handed Mendez was looking to land the counter strike. After fighting with his back against the cage, Sarafianwas able to land a slick trip and get the UFC newcomer on his back. The former TUF competitor immediately jumped in to Mendez’s guard and worked the body, while isolating the American’s head.
When the opportunity presented itself, Sarafian completed the arm-triangle choke to make a big statement in front of his home crowd.
The official time of the stoppage came at 2:20 in the first round.
