Outside of the UFC, Hector Lombard was a former light heavyweight and middleweight champion that was riding a 25 fight win streak coming in to his promotional debut. The hype around Lombard was incredible and many believed he would be the next true contender for middleweight champion Anderson Silva, but he has yet to find his groove in the UFC.

Now, in an effort to get back to the top of the sport, Lombard has decided to make the move down to 170-pounds to compete in the UFC’s welterweight division. He announced the move on UFC Tonight.

Not only did Lombard announce the move, he announced his desire to face off against Nate Marquardt.

Considering how oversized of a middleweight Lombard is, he will be absolutely massive down the weight class, but that works out with a potential bout with Nate Marquardt who was also a former middleweight contender.

It would be a treat to see Lombard down a weight class with his power, but the UFC has yet to confirm whether an official move will be made or if he as a debut date and opponent set.

We will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
