Hector Lombard is making the move to the welterweight division and he is getting his wish. When Lombard announced that he would be dropping a weight class, he had also stated that he wanted to face former title contender Nate Marquardt. When a fighter points out an opponent he would like to face, the UFC often tries to make it happen.
This time, their efforts were rewarded with an exciting match up at 170-pounds.
It was announced today that Lombard vs. Marquardt will be part of the UFC 166 event on October 19 in Houston’s Toyota Center. MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani confirmed the news.
Lombard vs. Marquardt is a very intriguing fight that seems almost certain to provide non-stop action and fireworks for the fans. If the fight lives up to the hype that it will receive, this could give the winner an opportunity to shoot up the welterweight ranks and begin to have their name floating around in potential title consideration.
This is the second fight attached to the event, which is set to be headlined by the grudge match between heavyweight Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos as they battle it out once again with the UFC championship on the line.
