UFC light-heavyweight Chael Sonnen is currently preparing for his fight on August 17 in Boston against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, but he is taking the time to meet with the media and hype up his fight against Shogun. During one of his interviews with Boston.com, Sonnen publicly acknowledged that he will be on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) for the upcoming fight.
Sonnen was asked the question, “Following your first fight with Anderson Silva at UFC 117, you had a few problems with the California State Athletic Commission with regard to your use of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT). Have you had any issues with the Massachussetts commission?”
His answer was simple: “That got accepted on the record. They had a meeting. But, I never broke a rule anywhere.”
TRT has been a hot button issue in mixed martial arts and Sonnen has previously tested positive for elevated levvels of testosterone, so he will be subject to plenty of criticism before and after the fight once the larger population of fight fans becomes aware.
However, as long as Sonnen went about everything the right way, no one has any reason to be upset.
