UFC on FOX 8: Herb Dean to ref main and co-main events

The UFC will be taking center stage on national television tonight when they air a free fight card on FOX. Luckily for fight fans and the sport, the best referee available will be the third man in the cage for the UFC on FOX 8 main event between Demetrious Johnson and John Moraga for the flyweight title and the co-main event, which is a welterweight No. 1 contender match, between Jake Ellenberger and Rory MacDonald.

Washington State Department of Licensing passed along the judging and referee assignments late Friday to MMA Junkie.

While Dean will be the ref for the main and co-main events, Johnson vs. Moraga will be judged by Sal D’Amato, Chris Lee and Lester Griffin, while D’Amato, Dave Hagen and Griffin score the Ellenberger vs. MacDonald fight.

Dean is one of the most recognizable referees in the sport and he is often on duty for the top matches. The UFC has to be happy that one of the best in the game will be in the cage during the fights that will have the most eyeballs locked in on from the national audience.

FC on FOX 8 takes place tonight at Seattle’s KeyArena, with prelims airing on Facebook and FX before the main card kicks off on FOX.
