One of the top flyweight prospects in mixed martial arts, Sergio Pettis, fought in the regional circuit Saturday night at NAFC: Battle At The Ballroom in his hometown of Milwaukee. Pettis, who is the younger brother of UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, was able to advance to 9-0 with a first-round kimura victory over James Porter.
Many have been calling for the younger Pettis to get his shot in the UFC and that opportunity could come now.
There are rumors that Pettis has previously received an offer from the UFC that he turned down so he could continue to improve, but after his fight with Porter he dropped to his knees and said he is ready to finally make the jump to the top promotion in the world.
With the UFC flyweight division still in it’s infancy and lacking any star power or depth, adding Pettis would be a great move for Dana White.
Pettis comes in with a name that fans will recognize, but he also has the skill set to make a serious impact and become one of the top fighter’s in the weight class for the promotion.
The 20 year old should find out sooner rather than later if he can join his brother in the UFC and we will be watching closely.
