UFC 166 results: Jessica Eye edges Sarah Kaufman via split-decision

The UFC women’s bantamweight division always brings it and Saturday night was no different when veteran Sarah Kaufman welcomed Jessica Eye to the octagon in her UFC debut.

As is always the case with Kaufman, we got an exciting stand up war that went back and forth. The difference in the first two rounds was the speed by Eye, who was able to pick apart Kaufman, but it all changed in the third round when Kaufman began to turn it on in the final minutes and land some vicious shots.

Eye was able to hang on and eventually trade some blows with Kaufman as time expired in the fight and the judges determined we had a split-decision on our hands.

Both women were beat up with some severe swelling under their eyes, but it in the it was Jessica “Evil” Eye who had her hand raised in victory — 29-28, 29-28 and 28-29.

It is a huge win in her UFC debut, while it is a very tough loss for Kaufman to take, especially after dominating the final few minutes.

Jessica Eye first caught my attention when I happened to be watching Kenny Crumpton on Fox 8 News in The Morning. I was home sick that day and was simply flipping channels when I witnessed Kenny interviewing Jessica. From thevery moment I watched her perform various demonstrations I knew Cleveland had a potential world champion. This girl works hard for the money and there is no let up in her determination to succeed. While I certainly do not see any
fear in her eyes I have also recognized a certain sweetness and caring in her nature. She’s obviously concerned more about others than herself and will certainly serve as a inspiration to
Northeast Ohio while she battles her way to the top. Kudos to you Jessica; now bring home the championship and give us the boost we all so desperately need. As Mick told Rocky{paraphrasing}: go get ‘em run ooooover ‘em!!!
