Former female boxer Holly Holm decided to drop her 12 oz boxing gloves for 4 oz MMA gloves. After compiling a 33-2 record in boxing, Holm decided to try out MMA in 2011. Training with Greg Jackson and famed striking coach, Mike Winkeljohn, Holm is 5-0 with 5 finishes in her young career. Jack Slack has already called Holm the best striker in women’s MMA, and fans everywhere are clamoring for her to be signed by the UFC.
Dana White, during his UFC 166 post fight media scrum, was asked about Holm and here is what he had to say (courtesy of Bloodyelbow.com):
‘You’re like the billionth person that’s asked me about Holly Holm. I was on the street the other day and some guy was like, ‘HEY! Sign Holly Holm.’ And I’m like, ‘yeah, I know. Everybody’s telling me.’ I haven’t seen her fight but I keep hearing about her. She’s like the female Conor McGregor. I thought Conor McGregor was a heavyweight when I was hearing about him. For some reason, that’s what I did. Holly Holm, I don’t know what she looks like, I’ve never seen her fight, but I know who she is.’
Holly is clearly making waves in the MMA world, and I would not be surprised if the UFC signed her after her next fight. Holm is scheduled to fight Angela Hayes on December 6th. If she gets another dominant win, expect her to be fighting in the UFC sometime in 2014.
