When UFC Fight Night 30 nears it’s conclusion on Saturday afternoon and main event participants Lyoto Machida and Mark Munoz make their way to the octagon, there is going to be an interesting dynamic that we are not used to seeing in mixed martial arts.
For what is believed to be the first time in UFC history, two brothers will be going head-to-head in opposite corners.
Both Machida and Munoz train at the Gracie Academy, so there was some discussion about how each fighter would be cornered. Ultimately, Ryron Gracie and Rener Gracie, the sons of UFC co-founder Rorion Gracie, decided that they would each corner one of the fighters.
Ryron will be cornering Munoz, while Rener will be guiding Machida in his middleweight debut.
Machida and Munoz were training with each other before an eye injury forced Michael Bisping to pull out of his scheduled fight with Munoz, and that is when they learned the UFC would like the pair to match up and give UFC Fight Night 30 a quality main event.
The main card for today’s event in Manchester, England will kick off at 3 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 2.
