John Lineker entered today’s main card match up against Phil Harris as the No. 5 flyweight in the UFC, but he would need a big win to get back in the good graces of UFC president Dana White. Lineker missed weight for the third time in his UFC career during the UFC Fight Night 30 weigh-ins, and the boss was not happy.
If there is one thing we have learned in the past, missing weight and losing your fight is a recipe for getting your walking papers, so Lineker was looking to make a statement in the octagon.
Harris was staying on the outside early in order to avoid Lineker’s knockout power and he was able to keep his distance. Lineker was using some leg kicks to score in the opening minutes, but it was Harris who was able to use his movement and connect with the shots to the head.
Lineker did land one big shot in the midway point of the round that dropped Harris to his butt, but he was able to bounce right back up.
Shortly after, Lineker landed a big left hook that hurt Phil Harris and that was all he needed to turn up the pressure and serach for the finish. Harris appeared to be out on his feet and Lineker was able to continue scoring the heavy blows before landing a shot to the solar plexus that dropped Harris and put an end to the fight.
The official time of the stoppage for Lineker’s dominating performance was at 2:51 of the first round.
