Douglas Lima is a good investment for Bellator

If Bellator Welterweight champion Ben “Funky” Askren decides to leave the organization, there is another champion the promotion could make into a star

Bellator MMA has signed two-time Bellator Welterweight tournament winner Douglas “The Phenom” Lima to an eight-fight contract.

This is a good investment for Bellator. Lima has accumulated a record of 7-1 under their banner. His latest win was at the main event of Bellator 100 where he knocked out Ben Saunders with a head kick to become the Bellator Season Eight Welterweight winner. Lima’s only loss was against Askren back in 2012 where the Olympic wrestler won by decision.

Askren’s status with Bellator is up in the air. If he chooses to stay with the company, he would most likely defend the title against Lima, who is recovering from a broken hand he sustained in the rematch against Saunders.

If th Funky one decides to go elsewhere, it is likely that Lima will face the winner of the Season Nine Welterweight tournament finals match between Ron Keslar vs. Rick Hawn, which takes place at Bellator 109
