A low blow in the first round reminds us why Hunt/Silva was unforgettable

What we witnessed Friday night in Australia between Mark Hunt and Bigfoot Silva was a legendary moment in MMA. It was a battle of attrition the likes of which we’ve rarely seen in the Octagon, and it certainly was an unprecedented brawl in terms of strikes landed and “Holy ****” moments that preceded flipping over your couch with your buddies as you watched.

Thousands of non-smokers needed a cigarette after Hunt vs. Silva just from its sheer greatness. It had everything; Tentative striking led to an all-out brawl, takedowns were achieved, submissions were thwarted and some of the best sportsmanship ever was muttered breathlessly between shots below the belt and to the body.

As you can see in the video below, Hunt takes a shot to the junk, explains the situation to Bigfoot and the Bigfoot repents.

“That was in my balls…”

“Sorry, sorry”

What follows is incomprehensible muttering, possibly an acknowledgement of penitence.
