Alexander Emelianenko, the younger brother of legendary MMA Heavyweight, Fedor Emelianenko, is set to fight early in 2014. According to a Russian media outlet, Emelianenko will take on Dmitry Sosnowski on January 26th in St Petersburg, Russia for the promotion Coliseum- New History.
After only a three month ‘retirement’ in 2012, Emelianenko decided to don the gloves once again. He came back and easily defeated Bob Sapp by TKO in round 1. Three months later, Emelianenko dominated Jose Rodrigo Guelke en route to another TKO victory in round 1. He will now look for his third win in a row against Sosnowski.
Sosnowski is 2-0, and is still relatively new to MMA. He trains alongside Alexey Oleinik, who was recently signed to the UFC. He is set to fight Jared Rosholt at UFC on FOX 10 in January.
Oleg Raevskii, the president of the Coliseum promotion in Russia, said that Emelianenko’s contract is difficult to deal with, but the fight will happen. Oleg also stated that he still wants to set up a rematch between Emelianenko and Jeff Monson. The two first met back at M-1 Challenge 35, where Monson submitted Emelianenko by north-south choke. That night was supposed to be Emelianenko’s last fight, but obviously things have changed since then.
