Former professional boxing champion Holly Holm (6-0) is one of the top fighters in the women’s bantamweight division, which has led many hoping that she will eventually be signed to the UFC. But while Holm looks like she will eventually make the jump to the big show, she will first have a title fight in Legacy Fighting Championship.
On Saturday morning, it was announced that Holm will be taking on Juliana Werner (7-3) at an unannounced April event in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where Holm calls home, for the inaugural Legacy FC women’s bantamweight title.
MMAjunkie.com reported the news, which was confirmed by Legacy FC President Mick Maynard.
The bout between Holm and Werner looks to be an exciting match up of well-versed strikers. We all know Holm’s incredible accomplishments inside of the boxing ring, but Werner is a standout striker herself.
Werner earned a 24-3 professional kickboxing record, where she was a a six-time Brazilian champion and two-time South American champion.
If Holm can get past her next challenge in the spring, the UFC could immediately come calling — at least that is what the mixed martial arts fans will be hoping for.
We will update you with more information on the April Legacy FC event as it becomes available.
