UFC Heavyweight, Antonio Silva, is coming off an epic five round draw against Mark Hunt back at UFC Fight Night 33. The fight was being billed as the greatest in Heavyweight history, and Dana White, the UFC, and fans were all ecstatic. Unfortunately, Silva tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone post fight, dampening their battle slightly.
For the failed test, Silva was suspended nine months. In the meantime, Silva has decided to go under the knife to fix a nagging shoulder issue. He posted his progress on his Instagram account earlier this week:
Along with the picture was this message regarding the surgery:
After hours of surgery in my shoulder I’m very well and I will be back 100% thank you everyone.
Silva was granted a therapeutic-use exemption for testosterone replacement therapy for the Mark Hunt fight, but still failed the post fight drug test. The UFC and Dana White have repeatedly warned fighters on TRT that they will be tested more than others, and need to keep their levels in check. Clearly, Silva made a mistake and went over the limit. His $50,000 ‘Fight of the Night’ bonus was given to Mark Hunt, and the draw was flipped to a no contest. Hunt’s record will still keep the fight as a draw, however.
