At UFC 169, heavyweight Alistair Overeem was able to dominate former champion Frank Mir on way to a unanimous decision victory. Overeem came out landing devastating shots and looking to get the finish, but after failing to secure the first-round win he began to coast.
Overeem admitted that he was playing it a bit safe throughout the second and third rounds, but a win is a win and that was the ultimate goal in a bout where the loser could very well receive his walking papers.
While Overeem was impressive with his win, it was his comments after the fight that really left everyone talking.
When Overeem was speaking with commentator Joe Rogan, he decided to call out a former UFC champion that was the biggest pay-per-view draw in the sports history — Brock Lesnar.
“I hear there’s word that Brock Lesnar is about to come back to the UFC,” Overeem told Rogan. “Well, I’ll be here waiting for him.”
Overeem has a previous victory over Lesnar and there is no chance that Lesnar would want to go through that punishment again, so we would bet against a potential Overeem vs. Lesnar match up if the WWE star decides to return to the octagon.
