MMAJunkie reported earlier today that UFC Lightweight, Yancy Medeiros, failed his UFC Fight Night 31 post fight drug test, and thus his first round KO win over Yves Edwards has been overturned to a no contest.
UFC Fight Night 31, or UFC Fight For the Troops 3, went down this past November in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The main event was a Middleweight battle between Rafael Natal and Tim Kennedy. In one of the more memorable moments in UFC history, Kennedy knocked out Natal in front of his army brethren. Another memorable moment of the event was Yancy Medeiros’ impressive knockout of MMA veteran, Yves Edwards, in the first round.
After the fight, Medeiros failed his post fight drug test by testing positive for marijuana metabolites. The failed test was not made public until today. The punishment for the failed test was a suspension that was 90 days retroactive to the day of his November 6th bout. As of this writing, 97 days have passed since the fight, so Medeiros is currently not suspended.
Medeiros is set to face Joe Ellenberger at UFC 172 in a battle between two talented Lightweight prospects. Ellenberger is the twin the brother of perennial Welterweight contender, Jake Ellenberger. Both brothers will be fighting on the UFC 172 card as Jake takes on former StrikeForce Welterweight champion, Tarec Saffiedine.
