This weekend, at UFC 170, Daniel Cormier will make his long awaited UFC Light Heavyweight debut. Cormier, who is undefeated in all of his previous Heavyweight bouts, will take on former wrestling training partner, Patrick Cummins.
In the video above, watch Cormier’s special segment on TheSHOOT as he prepares for UFC 170. Cormier was originally set to fight against friend and former Light Heavyweight champion, Rashad Evans. A win over Evans would have likely garnered Cormier a UFC Light Heavyweight title shot.
Unfortunately, only 10 days out from the bout against Cormier, Evans hurt his leg and was forced to withdraw from the bout. In a statement from the Blackzilians, Evans’ team, Rashad will be out up to 6 months following surgery later this week:
On February 12, former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans injured his knee during a training session leading up to UFC 170. After consulting with his doctors, Rashad will undergo surgery this week with Dr. Kvitne in Los Angeles, California. Rashad’s medical team expects him to be out of active training for 6 months.
Cormier will now take on Patrick Cummins, who has claimed that he broke Cormier in the gym time and time again. Cormier likely won’t get a title shot with a win on Saturday night, but he will inch himself closer to the Light Heavyweight title.
