The UFC recently announced that Gilbert Melendez would be facing off against lightweight champion Anthony Pettis later this year, after the two men square off opposite each other as head coaches on season 20 of The Ultimate Fighter.
While Melendez and Pettis are the head coaches for their teams, they will have the responsibility of putting together coaching staffs to help the all-female cast improve.
For Team Melendez, the coaching staff is a great group of men that have been working together for years.
“As for my staff, for sure I’ve got to go with my big brother Jake Shields since he brings so much experience to the table,” he said in the above video from our partners at Shoot Media. “He’s been here for so long, and no one outworks that guy.”
Along with Jake Shields, Melendez’s coaching staff is set to include muay Thai trainer Jongsanan Woodenman and the Diaz brothers.
“You better believe I called Nick and Nate Diaz already and asked them to make some time to come out and make an appearance and spend some time out there in Vegas,” he said.
Team Pettis will likely include Duke Roufus and the great striking team from his academy, so it will be interesting to see how much the women can improve during the season with world class coaches.
