On Saturday, May 24th, live on pay per view, Chris Weidman will defend his UFC Middleweight championship belt against former UFC Light Heavyweight champion, Lyoto ‘The Dragon’ Machida.

Today, the UFC unveiled the poster for the event, and it is absolutely stellar:

The Middleweight title bout was originally set to be Vitor Belfort vs Chris Weidman, but the recent ban of Testosterone Replacement Therapy forced Belfort to withdraw from the bout in order to get his body acclimated to training without TRT.

Machida was the obvious replacement for Belfort as he has looked stellar since his move down to 185. This past October, in his Middleweight debut, Machida knocked out Mark Munoz with a highlight reel head kick. He followed that performance with a dominant unanimous decision over Gegard Mousasi in February.

Weidman did the unthinkable in 2013; he beat longtime Middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, twice. At UFC 162, Weidman knocked out Silva in one of the most unbelievable moments in the history of the sport. In the rematch at UFC 168, Weidman once again defeated ‘The Spider’ when he checked one of the former champion’s leg kicks, which subsequently broke his leg. Weidman will look to make his own legacy when he takes on Machida in May.
