Over the weekend, there were some rumors circulating that Paige VanZant, who the UFC signed from Invicta FC, was not going to be on season 20 of The Ultimate Fighter due to the age limit after initially being under the impression that she was.
VanZant, 20, quickly said that she wasn’t told of the development, but she later admitted that she has known for a while she would not be on the show. She had just believed the news was supposed to be kept quiet for the time being.
“We were under the impression we had to keep it on the down low,” VanZant said.
The age limit for The Ultimate Fighter is due to the alcohol on the house, so it is not surprising that she will not be on the show. At first, it was a disappointment, but VanZant is still excited to eventually get her shot in the octagon.
“I was upset initially,” said VanZant, via FOX Sports. “I was very excited to train with those girls and those coaches. I know the experience would have been unbelievable.”
TUF 20 begins filming in May and premieres Sept. 10 on FOX Sports 1.
While VanZant will not have the opportunity to fight for the inaugural women’s strawweight title, she is still on the UFC roster and will just have to wait until the promotion books her first fight.
