UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in mixed martial arts today, which generally translates into pay-per-view buys. The people will always be willing to tune in to see the best, so when Jones is in the main event he believes that people will tune in.
In a recent interview, Jones was candid in saying that he believes he is among the biggest draws in the sport, but selling fights is not his primary focus.
“I would imagine that I would have to be one of the biggest draws right now in the sport, especially with Anderson (Silva) and Georges not being around,” Jones told MMAjunkie.com.
“But I don’t think about that too much. My biggest thing is winning fights. Winning fights and growing more comfortable in my own skin each year. I’m really happy where I’m at right now.”
Jones is also a polarizing figure, so having him in a main event certainly helps with pay-per-view buys, whether it is because people want to see him win or want to see him lose.
The champ has had some of the highest selling pay-per-views throughout the past few years, but if he wants to be mentioned in the same breath as Anderson Silva or Georges St-Pierre as a draw then he has a long way to go.
