An exciting Welterweight matchup at The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3 Finale was lost today when reports surfaced that Mike Pierce broke his hand in training.
Pierce’s opponent, Demian Maia, is now left without an opponent for the scheduled May 31st card. The UFC has yet to announce a replacement, but there seems to be ample time to find a suitable opponent for Maia.
At this time, there has been no word on the extent of Peirce’s injury, but FanSided will keep you updated with his status.
Pierce has been out of action since October, where Rousimar Palhares submitted him by heel hook in just 31 seconds. The fight’s ending was very controversial, as Palhares held on to the submission after Pierce had tapped and the referee stepped in. In the aftermath, the UFC decided to cut Rousimar Palhares for unsportsmanlike conduct.
As for Maia, he is looking to avoid losing three fights in a row in his next bout. After winning three straight over solid opposition, Maia has dropped his last two against Jake Shields and Rory MacDonald.
