On Saturday night in the main event of GLORY 15: Istanbul, Tyrone Spong suffered a gruesome leg injury when his leg snapped in half after a leg kick was checked by his opponent, Gökhan Saki, who went on to win the GLORY light heavyweight championship.
Spong would require emergency surgery to repair his leg, and GLORY was able to fly him back home to Florida where he received that surgery on Monday morning.
After arriving home and having a successful operation, Spong released a statement through the BlackZilians website:
“I want my family, friends and fans to know that I’m okay. The trip home to Florida was a long one and I am thankful to be back in Florida. I had surgery this morning and it went perfectly.
My Doctors said it turned out to be a clean break and they feel confident that I will recover 100%. They said I can be training for a fight as early as 6 months if I rehab properly. I feel very optimistic. Thank you all for your support.”
It is great to hear that Spong is doing well and in good spirits, and also great to know that GLORY treated him so well and made sure he could receive the best medical treatment possible in a timely manner.
Things could have been complicated with Spong being in Istanbul, but GLORY handled the process well and Spong kept his chin up throughout it all.
We would like to wish Spong a full and speedy recovery.
