This weekend at UFC 172, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will attempt to defend his title for the seventh time. Standing across from him will be the heavy-handed Brazilian, Glover Teixeira.
While defeating Glover is the task at hand, Jones knows that many challengers are lined up waiting for their shot at him. Alexander Gustafsson, Daniel Cormier, Phil Davis, and Anthony Johnson all ultimately want to get a crack at Jones and the UFC title.
With so many challengers, it seems that the talks of Jones moving to Heavyweight to challenge Cain Velasquez have been tabled.
Jones says he has “no interest” in fighting Cain Velasquez, because of all the competition left at 205. “I’m excited to meet them all.”

Although both the heavyweight and light heavyweight divisions are thin, the two champions are among the two most dominant forces in all of MMA. It is obvious that a fight between the two would be huge, but their responsibilities to their division’s challengers come first.
With at least two to three more light heavyweight title fights on the horizon for Jones, it may be some time before we begin to speculate his move to heavyweight.
