Jens Pulver is a well-traveled MMA veteran, fighting seemingly everywhere. However, his most recent appearance in the cage is one the 39-year old won’t soon forget.
Nine-year-old Omar Garcia has aspired to be an MMA fighter throughout his short life. However, Garcia has a heart defect in which has forced him to have six surgeries, a battle few fighters can ever grasp.
While his battle isn’t over yet, Jens “Lil’ Evil” Pulver, who happens to be Garcia’s uncle, teamed up with Knucklehead Fight Promotions out of Oregon in an effort to make his nephew’s dream a reality.
In front of the crowd, Omar was summoned to the cage to “fight” Pulver, a former world champion. Pulver took a fall after a couple of punches, and the referee stepped in, to the roar of the crowd, and the delight of Garcia.
Pulver is a former UFC lightweight champion, best known for him impressive run between 1999 and 2002, which saw him go unbeaten in seven consecutive UFC fights, including a majority decision over BJ Penn.
Pulver would go on to fight in the UFC, Pride, IFC, WEC, ONE FC, and Shooto. In addition to a victory over Penn, Pulver holds a victory over current #4-ranked featherweight Cub Swanson.
