Ryan Bader vs Ovince St. Preux to headline UFC Fight Night in Bangor

The UFC announced a few weeks back that they will be heading to Bangor, Maine on August 16th for a UFC Fight Night at the Cross Insurance Center. Today, the main event was announced and it has all the makings of a stellar fight. Two top 10 ranked light heavyweights will battle it out when Ryan Bader takes on the surging Ovince St. Preux.

Both Bader and St. Preux showed mutual interest in fighting one another after dominant victories this past weekend at UFC 174. St. Preux opened up the pay-per-view card for his second straight fight as he defeated Ryan Jimmo by verbal submission after Jimmo’s arm had been broken blocking one of St. Preux’s kicks.

Bader took on Rafael Cavalcante in a bout that he stated beforehand would determine whether or not he would be a gatekeeper or a contender in the light heavyweight division. In the end, Bader’s wrestling and ground and pound shined as he thoroughly dominated the former StrikeForce light heavyweight champion en route to a unanimous decision victory.

This fight will be Bader’s second UFC main event, while it will be the first for St. Preux. Both men are riding recent hot streaks as St. Preux has won his last five bouts, four of which have been in the UFC. As for Bader, he has won his last two bouts by completely dominating his opponents on the mat.

This fight has all the makings of a fight of the night and could provide the thin light heavyweight division with a fresh contender. If St. Preux is able to defeat Bader impressively, he may very well be fighting in the upper echelon of the division by the end of the year.
