Chris Weidman did what no other man could in UFC history, and that is defeat the longtime middleweight champion and consensus greatest MMA fighter of all time, Anderson “The Spider” Silva.
Not only did he defeat Silva, he knocked him out cold, which no man had ever done before. Not only did Weidman knock him out, he gave Silva an immediate rematch five months later, and defeated Silva once again due to a horrific leg break incurred when Weidman checked a ferocious Silva leg kick.
Tomorrow in the main event of UFC 175, Weidman defends his title for the first time against someone not named Anderson Silva. Instead, he faces off against the former light heavyweight champion, Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida.
Prior to that mammoth fight tomorrow night, let’s take a trip back to that fateful night where the MMA world witnessed the most shocking result in it’s history. That night is of course last year’s July 4th weekend event, UFC 162.
You can watch the entire first fight between Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman in the video below. Make sure to stick with FanSided throughout the weekend as we will have full coverage of all the mixed martial arts events going on this holiday weekend.
