The 2014 ESPYs was certainly one to remember, despite the train wreck everyone expected with Drake hosting. Many expected Drake to flounder and his opening monologue was off to a rough start, but he recovered with a bit that had him blowing on people in the audience, a Lance Stephenson spin of the kiss cam.
What really made the show memorable were a pair of powerful speeches from Michael Sam and Stuart Scott. Sam was accepting the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage, a deserving winner after coming out and embarking on a journey as the first openly gay player in the NFL. Scott was given the Jimmy V Perseverance Award for his strength as he battles cancer.
There were plenty of other awards and we have a list of all the winners from the 2014 ESPYs. However, if you go to the ESPY’s website there is an error. They list Serena Williams as the winner for Best Female Athlete, an award that went to UFC Fighter Ronda Rousey. The presenters even acknowledged that Rousey wasn’t there to accept the award because she has just undergone surgery after her win over Alexis Davis at UFC 175.
Eventually they recognized their mistake and corrected it, and it now says Rousey.
