Before Manchester United began their U.S. tour for the 2014 Guinness International Champions Cup, defender Rafael suffered a groin injury that has forced him to leave the team for their remaining games stateside.
The club gave a brief statement on what is next for Rafael following the injury, which includes return to the team’s training facility to begin his rehab:
As he was unlikely to participate in the remaining tour games, returning to the Aon Training Complex affords the best overall option for his recovery in time to continue preseason preparation when the team returns.
The club provided no word on how long Rafael will be out of action.
Rafael suffered the injury in Denver before Manchester United defeated AS Roma, 3-2.
Without Rafael in the starting line up, Manchester United split time between Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia.
Manchester United will continue their run in the International Champions Cup on Tuesday against Inter Milan.
