The UFC is beginning their media tours for UFC 179. The event is headlined by a featherweight title bout between Jose Aldo and top contender Chad Mendes.
Today’s media session took place at the iconic Estadio Macarana, and when Aldo and Mendes faced off there was plenty of tension in the air.
The two men have had their fair share of verbal sparring since their fight was announced and the tempers boiled over when they came face-to-face. After the initial staredown, Aldo got in Mendes’ face again and gave him a hard shove before the two men were separated.
Video of the shove was captured by MMAFighting.com:
This seems to be a growing trend in mixed martial arts, but hopefully it can come to an end before we get another pre-fight brawl that brings negative attention to the sport.
Along with Aldo vs. Mendes, the UFC has announced the scheduling of Phil Davis vs. Glover Teixeira.
Those two bouts are the only fights currently scheduled for the Oct. 25 show at Maracanazinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
