Jillian DeCoursey brought the MMA world into a frenzy Wednesday night with a devastating KO against Lindsey VanZandt at Invicta FC 47. The KO came from a nasty cross to the jaw of VanZandt which sent her falling to the canvas before a few additional shots closed the deal.

Known as “Lionheart,” DeCoursey improved to 5-3 as a professional with the victory and has surely put the atomweight division on notice with the stoppage. Though the UFC does not currently have that weight class, as its lowest is the strawweight division, DeCoursey could wind up finding herself as a direct signee to the UFC, a DWCS participant, or a member of a future TUF season.

The victory marked DeCoursey’s third win in her last five outings, while also snapping a two-fight losing skid in the process.

Jillian DeCoursey had a stellar run in the amateur circuit

DeCoursey quickly made a name for herself while starting her MMA career. Before turning pro, she won eight of her first nine fights. Victories included KO’s of Anastasia Bruce and a decision win against VanZandt in Dec. 2016.

DeCoursey has been a professional since Aug. 2017 and has primarily won her fights by KO/TKO or decision thus far. If noticed by a major MMA promotion from this win, the rest of 2022 and 2023 could see a new era of women’s MMA emerge with the arrival of DeCoursey and her vicious KO power.

Only time will tell regarding if that may come to fruition, but with Invicta FC’s track record of bringing in talented women’s prospects to the UFC, anything is possible.
